Puffco Peak Smart Rig

Maaaaaan the Puffkeezy smacks for sure, it’s a great product worth every penny!

First off, POTV had the best price on this item at the time that I purchased it, and I appreciate that. Nothing that could be viewed as potentially negative should be held against POTV, as its service has been exceptional. This was my first dive into a dabbing device that was not a pen-like device (I already own the Puffco+ and the Terp Pen and both are solid devices, though my comments on the Puffco Peak and similar to what I would say about the Puffco+). I now realize that, when you are dealing with electronic dabbing devices such as the Peak, you are always going to be dealing with an atomizer, and atomizers are parts that are going to require replacement, even with the best care. This is something that I do NOT feel reviews for the Puffco Peak properly address, both on POTV’s site, and others. In the case of the Peak, replacement of the atomizer is something that costs upward of $40. For a device that costs $300 (now) and once cost a heck of a lot more, $40 to replace an atomizer is steep, especially if the replacement has to occur every few months. Luckily, thus far I have taken very good care of the atomizer, and despite about 6-8 weeks of regular use, the atomizer has not failed yet. I just feel that, for the price of the device, having to purchase new atomizers at $40 each is steep. The Puffco plus also has an atomizer with a shelf-life, and those replacements cost $25 each, which is more than 25% of the purchase price (currently set at $89.99 on POTV). Now for the positives: (1) Just as Larry’s review states, this thing is unbelievably consistent; (2) battery life has been more than ample, (3) flavor is outstanding (may improve even more – I have a titanium cup on the way), and the flavor of my extracts have really been showcased by this device. FYI, I have never been a fan of the e-nail or using butane torches for dabbing, and I avoided dabbing for a long time because I didn’t like those methods. I have young kids, and whatever device I use needs to be able to be quickly put away, and be an non-dangerous to wandering hands as possible. Waiting for an e-nail to cool down, or for quartz bangers to cool after being torched is something that I cannot have, and frankly I don’t have the space to have that stuff laying around. The Peak is an on-demand device. I know that the industry standard means “on demand” equates to instant heating, but when you are talking about heating a device beyond 500 degrees, waiting 10-15 seconds, in my opinion, still qualifies as on demand. The Peak consistently delivers top-quality, tasty dabs. I have kept the setting at either blue or green. With even mediocre-quality dabs, the blue setting delivers the full flavor profile of the concentrate. If you have concentrates that don’t smell good, the Peak is going to deliver a hit that probably doesn’t taste great, but that’s the concentrate, not the Peak. I do generally find myself going to green (setting two) and the hits are still great, but not quite as flavorful as blue (setting one). That said, most of us what something that packs a heavy punch, and since the green setting doesn’t sacrifice all of the flavor or make it taste bad, green has been where I go mostly. I have once tried the red setting and frankly I think it is too much. If one of your goals is to avoid heavy coughing, I suggest sticking to blue or green. The device is even smaller than I thought it would be, but that’s a plus in my opinion. I wouldn’t say it is truly portable, because unless you are going to spring for another $120 to purchase the travel glass, the only way that you can travel with the Peak is to empty the water piece first. Puffco is adamant that getting water into the base will ruin it and void its warranty. But, for someone like me who wants to hide the device away until ready to hit it, the Puffco Peak meets the mark and is very easy to store. For the affects that this device delivers, I found that the $300 price tag was reasonable. A few more things that I’d like to point out that I wish were different (aside from what I noted above): (1) while the case that comes with the Peak could be used to transport it, it’s really molded styrofoam, and does not close and lock. For a device at this price point, I think Puffco should include a better case; (2) the dabbing tool that comes with the Peak is not useful. Much like the Puffco Plus, it has a groove underneath it for some reason, and that groove catches concentrate material that cannot be scraped into the Puffco Peak’s ceramic cup without another tool to scrape it from the groove. In addition, Puffco’s website tells its customers NOT to put concentrates on the sides of the atomizer cup, and for good reason, as that is where concentrates can ooze out of the ceramic cup and into the atomizer, which will destroy the atomizer. So you need to drop the concentrate on the bottom of the ceramic cup.
